A survey of the frontiers of "Medicine for the 90's" by four of the leading figures in contemporary holistic medicine.
A survey of the frontiers of "Medicine for the 90's" by four of the leading figures in contemporary holistic medicine. Larry Dossey, M.D. (Space, Time and Medicine) begins with a critique of mechanistic, reductive Western medicine and its refusal to take seriously the role of mind/consciousness/soul in sickness and health. He describes instead his vision of a "non-local" "eternity medicine" that acknowledges and incorporates transpersonal dimensions of human being. Frank Lawlis, Ph.D., offers a shamanic perspective on medical practice stressing the transformative power of states of consciousness and the importance of honoring the innate knowledge each person has of their unique healing path. Jean Achterberg, Ph.D. (Imagery in Healing, Woman as Healer) looks at the contribution the feminine offers to practices of healing. She recounts the devaluation and suppression women healers have historically suffered and wonders how things might be different if feminine aspects of healing were again equally honored. Barbara Dossey, R.N., focuses on the moment-by-moment integration of transpersonal healing into daily life: using ritual and visualization to evoke a healing presence in the home, the acute care unit, the operating room. This weekend workshop includes presentations by each speaker, questions and answers with the audience, and dialogue between the participants. A specially-priced 3 tape set.
